Static mixers are made in such way that its moulded parts are enhances the fluid mixing. Its tubular mixing elements ensures that homogeneous mixture will be formed throughout the operation. Forced feed provisions to the mixer been followed with the help of external components like pump. Apart from this, there is no requirement of any rotating or moving parts in it so electric consumption, maintenance is will be very low here.

Some complex calculations are required to determine the flow mixing ability and efficiency of the mixer. Various models and software packages being used for the simulation with the basis of flow theory of mixing principles are considered to derive the mixing operation.

Static mixer also can be called as static inline mixer as it offers on point mixing facilities. It creates the injection point for chemicals or fluid streams to get mixed in the base fluid and it enhances rapid mixing by creating turbulence within the fluid. This injection point and rapid mixing also helps to reduce the size of the tanks used in operation.

As static mixer is made up of pipe and mixing elements but it has no moving or rotating parts, the flow of the streams helps to mix the product well. Static mixers can be used for liquid, gas dispersion or liquid-liquid mixing.

Various processes like blending, dispersion, dosing, emulsion formation can be carried out in the stream using static mixer.

Working Principle –

Working Principle of the static mixer is simply laminar and turbulent flow of streams through the mixer. The various ways of arrangements of blades or segments of static mixer allows fluid to create turbulence over laminar flow which helps to cut the flow of first fluid in controlled manner and mixes it with second stream.

Achievable mixing in the operation or degree of mixing is depending upon the number of static elements used in the mixer. More the static elements, more will be the degree of mixing.

Mixing elements are of two types,

1. Helical mixing

Helical-mixing

2. Axial Mixing

Axial-Mixing

Any of the above types can be used in operation as per the process requirement.

Sizing of Static Mixer –

Various parameters where considered while sizing the mixer like line size, flow rate of the primary and secondary fluid where the chemical addition is followed using injection port.

Installation of Mixer –

Mixers should be fit into the pipe diameter as per the requirement. Various adjustable systems are there for easy handling of process. Tri-clamp end connection is there for pharmaceutical and food industry mostly where it can be removed for maintenance or cleaning purpose. Mixers are come with plain ends and required end fittings should be in provided by client.

Utilization of Static Mixer –

Static mixers able to mix liquid- liquid, solid- liquid or liquid and gas compounds and can be also used to carry colloidal mixing activities. These mixers are available in various sizes and design factors and can be customised as per the process application. These Machines will be differently designed for food-beverages industry and chemical or pharma industries and for colloidal mixing.

Structured Packing for Mass Transfer and Separation

Facilities like processing plants, offshore drilling locations, and refineries perform chemical separation functions called mass transfer functions. In these functions, liquids like gasoline and water are purified to get rid of contaminants. This procedure takes fruition by pumping liquids into the scrubber column, where the liquid is segregated from pollutants and particulates.
